Dirty Jersey

The ever-awesome Greg Dulli is taking the Twilight Singers on tour this fall.

MC Paul Barman, everyone's favorite Jewish rapper, uses the Fibonacci sequence to structure his rhymes.

Though they weren't as good as early Wilco, nor even as good as Jay Farrar solo, Son Volt is getting back together. More info on this from billboard.com.

In my continuing coverage of the band that's taking over America, here's an(other) interview with Patterson Hood. {Via largehearted boy}

Listen to songs from the new album by Will Johnson (of Centromatic).

The new U2 single, "Vertigo," has been leaked online. Click here for places you can download it.

This mashing craze may have gone too far: Fugazi's "Waiting Room" squashed into Destiny's Child's "Independent Women"?

Indian Summer

Mark Lanegan was injured in a car accident last night, causing him to cancel East Coast dates and suspend his tour for a few weeks while he recovers.

Things we already know: How the music biz can live forever, get even richer and be loved.

Great news for solitary boozers in the British Isles—hopefully someone in the States will get in line to pick this one up. Say you're at the bar, enjoying a pint, and your friend wants to buy you a beer...only that friend is across town sitting on their couch with no intention of leaving. They can simply text message the bar via buymeabeer.com, enter their credit card info, and voila! Instabeer for you.

A new portable Nintendo system is set to hit the shelves in time for Christmas. The DS (for dual screen) will sell well below the price point for Sony's PSP (PlayStation Portable), at $150 to Sony's $299.

In what would seem to be a reversing of the trend, 250 tech jobs from India are being outsourced to Belfast, Ireland. While at first blush that seems like a switch from the old UK-and-US jobs going to India routine, Northern Ireland is, for most intents and purposes, a third world country, which means this isn't chaning anything but the location of the outsourced jobs.

Took a Lot of Pills

Some information has surfaced about Drive-By Trucker Jason Isbell's upcoming solo album, Sirens of the Ditch.

I mentioned the Ted Leo tour before, but Minuteman Mike Watt will be on tour this fall, as well.

Speaking of tours, Interpol is hitting the road and will be signing records at shops across Los Angeles next week. Even stranger, however, are the Interpol Spaces the band has opened in New York and LA for the purpose of displaying Interpol posters (made by Shepard Fairey), Interpol neon signs and specially commissioned short films.

Uh, what the fuck?

The well of strange celebrity band configurations has apparently not run dry, resulting in the formation of Drums of Death—the superband of Dave Lombardo (Slayer), DJ Spooky, Jack Dangers (Meat Beat Manifesto) and special guest Vernon Reid (Living Color).

If you're into drugs, this could be just the combination for you: Luc Besson's new film, Danny the Dog, stars Jet Li and will be scored by Massive Attack.

Hollywood Barn Dance

The two Beatles who have not yet been tapped by the cold hand of death have teamed up with the widows of the two that have to once again sue Apple Computer over the rights to the Apple name. (The group owns the rights to the Apple Corps name—the label that released all of The Beatles' albums.) As though the four of them don't have enough money, they now want a piece of the iTunes pie; some are already predicting the settlement will be the largest ever made in US court outside of a civil suit.

I mentioned last time that Team Sleep has been awakened, and now you can watch their video.

In much cooler news, you can now stream the entire lost Beach Boys album, Smile. The more people who listen, the more album details the public is allowed to see!

J Robbins, producer and guitar player for some of my favorite bands, has his own new outfit called Channels, which you can listen to here.

I've never been a big Failure fan, but since I know people who are I felt obliged to share this: an album of unreleased material has been, well, released.

International pop maestro extraordinaire Burt Bacharach is in the studio again. Being produced by Dr Dre. I don't even know if there's a joke in there somewhere.

More info on the great Ted Leo's fall tour.

Apparently the lifestyle of rock 'n' roll excess can be a business, as well. First there was Sammy Hagar and his (awesome) Cabo Wabo tequila; now, we have Mick Fleetwood and his Mick Fleetwood Private Cellar wine.

Dude, despite the fact that your band was popular, it wasn't that good (with the exception of Lindsay Buckingham). I'm willing to bet that your wine will meander down the same path to obscurity. {Via largehearted boy}

1 2 X U

One of the films I've been anticipating this year is Dig!, about the "rivalry" between the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols. For those interested, check out the trailer and premiere dates.

Tune in, Tokyo! The Drive-By Truckers on Conan O'Brien this Thursday, September 16th!

If you haven't experienced it yourself (yet), read this review of the "Trucker Trifecta" to understand the greatness that is DBT live. {Via largehearted boy}

You can check out the new Sparta video and fall tour dates here.

...Trail of Dead will finally be touring again, though they have managed to completely miss Los Angeles in the process. They are also releasing a new album, Worlds Apart, early next year.

Team Sleep, Chino Moreno's side project, has finally awakened. If this album is anywhere near as disappointing as the last Deftones album, Chino might make it on my "Formerly Great Musicians" list, along with Ryan Adams and Jeff Tweedy.

Wire, those sublime paragons of punk goodness, are releasing a DVD next month which includes a 20-minute interview with the band and the only known recording of a performance on German TV from the '70s.

The new album from The Faint, Wet from Birth is set to drop soon; you can listen to songs and download an MP3 here.

Fall enters the picture and I start thinking about my favorite holiday: Halloween. For me, Halloween is the time when you pull out your Mike Patton records and drink Jagermeister until you can't get up. With that in mind, here's news on more upcoming Mike Patton freakiness.

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five have been nominated for induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

I have a fondness for interviews, so check out Paste Magazine's chit-chat with Rhett Miller of the Old 97s. {Via largehearted boy}

More interview goodness: Jay Farrar talks to the Rocky Mountain News. {Via largehearted boy}

Perennial hyperkinetic.org favorite Robbie Fulks talks to the Richmond Times-Dispatch about the Johhny Paycheck tribute Touch My Heart. {Via largehearted boy}

Guess what? Another interview! Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers talks to Boston's Weekly Dig. {Via largehearted boy}

A Long, Long While

It's been a long week-and-a-half since my last post. I've been swamped at work which, while it isn't an excuse, is the best I can do. I promise to update more often in the future!

The Ramones documentary End of the Century is finally being released this fall.

More excitement than my little heart can handle: Love + The Zombies on tour!

From what I've heard, Ted Leo's new album is currently the frontrunner for album of the year. Check out the album tracklist and upcoming Tedley tour dates.

Those paragons of eccentric hip hop, the Ultramagnetic MCs, are getting back together and releasing a new album.

News on the new Slayer album and tour.

Soon to be released: a Screaming Trees best of compilation.

I'm not sure which way it's going to go, but U2 has covered a Kraftwerk song to be released on the new album.

Man, do I hate Oasis. Thus I find it amusing that Noel Gallagher, who can't even drive, has put his Rolls Royce up for auction on eBay.

Despite the fact that Communique's last album was a dismal failure (worst album of the year thus far), one of the members of the band—which one I am not yet sure—has great taste in music, judging from his MP3 blog, Black Yellow Black.
